Wawanesa’s Mobile Response Unit arrives in Winnipeg to support members evacuated by Manitoba wildfires
June 3, 2025, WINNIPEG, MB – To support its members affected by the wildfire in Flin Flon and other parts of northern Manitoba, Wawanesa Insurance has deployed its Mobile Response Unit (MRU) to the evacuee reception centre in Winnipeg.
The MRU is set up in the parking lot of the Billy Mosienko Arena, located at 709 Keewatin Street. Wawanesa team members working out of the vehicle are providing personalized support to members by helping them open claims, answering questions, and distributing care kits. The MRU will remain in place as long as needed, operating daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Even before the MRU arrived, Wawanesa was the first insurer to set up at the evacuee reception centre, with claims representatives on site shortly after it opened to provide immediate support.
“This is an incredibly difficult and uncertain time for everyone who has been forced to leave their communities,” said Rohith Mascarenhas, Wawanesa’s Vice President of the Central Region. “In these moments, every minute matters. Our ability to act quickly to help our members is a symbol of our commitment to being there when they need us most.”
Wawanesa’s MRU, which operates across Canada, serves as a fully equipped mobile office during a crisis. It features Wi-Fi for members to use, a soundproof meeting room for confidential conversations, and other helpful amenities. The MRU was last used in Manitoba a few weeks ago during the Lac du Bonnet wildfire.
Wawanesa members are reminded they can contact the company 24/7 to open a claim by calling 1-844-929-2637 or by visiting wawanesa.com.
